And when the priests came out of the holy place, the cloud filled the house of God. The priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for God's glory filled His house. Then Solomon said, 'God has said that He would dwell in the thick darkness. I have indeed built You a house of habitation, a place for You to dwell in forever.' Here the four sons of the Aaron are purifying themselves in the camp’s mikvah (a collection of water). All the tribes had their assigned place in the camp which surrounded the mishkan – the Tabernacle. Over the mishkan hovered a pillar of smoke which was a connection to the infinite here shown as the rush of red rising straight up. These smoke pillars were protective guiding columns positioned at the four directions of the camp and at the center.
